Digital Media Intern

As the digital media intern, you will specifically work with the Kalamazoo College Football team under the supervision of the Director of Marketing and Social Media Coordinator. The general duties, expectations and requirements for this position are listed below. This is a new position for our program and we are excited to have your interest!

GENERAL DUTIES:

Location: Angell Field, Kalamazoo College Athletic Complex

Hornets Digital (website and social media platforms):

  • Participate in content and platform strategy for all social platforms

  • Work with the Social Media Coordinator to strategize, construct content and grow platform

  • Assist with the flow of content to and maintenance of news and social media outlets

  • Creation of images used for articles, videos and photo galleries posted to digital platforms

  • Produce highlight and game recap videos to be posted on various platforms on a weekly basis

  • Create photo galleries for digital platforms as needed

  • Monitor social content (photos and posts) and remove spam/inappropriate items

  • Communicate with and assist Social Media Coordinator as needed

Gameday:

  • Take in game videos as well as photos of players, coaches, fans

  • Prepare all game day videos, including game highlights, press conferences and post-game recap

  • Other duties as assigned

EXPECTATIONS: Start dates (May 2 – May 28 and August 13 – Last game)

  • Work under the supervision of the Social Media Coordinator and Marketing Director

  • Will need to be available during the week and weekends and must attend all home games and away league games

  • Estimated time commitment: Monday – Friday: attend practice (4-6:30), whatever other time you need to edit film(s) for that week. Attending practice will be flexible based on what the current project is.

  • Saturday: Attend games (11 am – end of game for home game)/ (From departure to arrival back in Kalamazoo for away games)

  • When transportation is unavailable or you are unable to attend an away game, you must use plays from hudl and photos from team photographer to construct that week’s highlight film.

  • Perform duties in compliance with the Kalamazoo College branding strategy and NCAA rules to promote Kalamazoo College Football and its mission to prospective players, parents and alumni.

  • Arrive on time and project a professional image in all interactions including fans and fellow Hornets’ associates, coaches and players

  • Goes extra mile to assist other members on the staff

REQUIREMENTS: Applicants are reviewed based on the following:

  • Prior experience in Digital Media, Web Development, Interactive Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Graphic Design or related field

  • Proficiency in basic content management platforms, Microsoft Word and Excel. Excellent writing, communication, attention to detail and proof reading skills; design experience (use of Photoshop, etc.). Other Internet-related skills (CSS, Java, etc.) a plus

  • Availability to work long, irregular hours and adaptability to a fast-paced environment involving several simultaneous projects and supervisors

  • Ability to meet deadlines, think creatively, and work well on a team

  • Self-starter

  • Possesses initiative, passion for new innovation and technology, organization, creativity, customer focus, effective communication
